William O. “Bill” Key Jr., 87, died Wednesday, July 3, 2013.

Mr. Key was born Jan. 23, 1926, in the Kamey community of Calhoun County to Agnes (Bordovsky) and William O. Key Sr. He was a member of Midtown Church of Christ and was a retired pipeline maintenance supervisor for Union Carbide. He also served in the United States Navy during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign and the Philippine Liberation. He enjoyed his horses, the outdoors and fishing. 

Survivors include his wife, Betty J. Key; daughters, Janis Ann (Timothy) Fossati of Nursery and Nancy Carol (Michael) Fortenberry of Normanna; son, Dwayne (Crestina)Key of Beeville; brother, Norman T. (Valeria) Key of La Porte; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and special friends, Blake and Jennifer Shaw, Sharon Hamilton and Cathy Thomason.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Thelma Fread; and brothers, Monroe J. Key and Wayne G. Key.

Visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 5, at Colonial Funeral Home in Victoria.

The funeral service was conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 6, at Midtown Church of Christ with Will McDonald officiating. Burial followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery with full military honors under Auspices of Victoria County Veterans Council, AL, CWV, VFW, DAV, MCL, MOWW, Ex-POW, MOPH, VVA and the KWV.

Pallbearers were Weldon Holmes, Paul Purswell, Mony Key, Roger Smith, Jeffery Key, Virgil Simms and Alan Harrod.

Honorary pallbearers included his grandsons, Nick Barsness, William Fossati and Juan Rincon, and nephew, Robert Koenig.

Memorial contributions may be made to Midtown Church of Christ.
