This week, Rachel announced her candidacy for Woodsboro ISD Place 2 on the board of trustees. She released the following statement:

“To the citizens of Woodsboro, Bayside and Bonnie View. I Rachel Wilson am pleased to announce my candidacy for the Woodsboro I.S.D., Board of Trustees, place 2.

“I am a graduate of Tuloso, Midway High School, Southeast Texas Technical Institute and Coastal Bend College. I have been proud to call Woodsboro home for the past 18 years. I am married to Calvin Wilson and have three children, Dustin a sophomore and Bailey a sixth grader at WISD. Our oldest daughter Brandi along with my husband are both proud graduates of Woodsboro High School.

“Along with the opportunity of working along side my husband while running our own business, I have also had the privilege of being a stay-at-home mother for more than 15 years.

“This has given me the opportunity to be actively involved in our schools and community. During this time I have had the opportunity to volunteer along side some great parents teachers, administrators and community leaders. I have volunteered my time as a room mother, president of the head start parent committee for two years, BCCAA Head Start Parent Representative, School Health Advisor committee, Woodsboro Band Booster-member, treasurer, vice-president and president, Woodsboro All Sports Booster Club, member and current vice-president.

“I have also been involved with Little League as a parent volunteer, and board member, having served as treasurer and president. I have also had the great privilege of helping with the Venture Crew and Earth Science Field Day.

“I believe that in these trying time of budget cuts and financial uncertainty for all districts we need to focus on the things that make the wheel go around.

“Achievement: We need to insure that we continue to provide our students with the recourses and support they need to achieve their educational goals.

“Budget: We need to make necessary changes in our budget to inure our financial success as a district.

“Community: We need to close the communication gap between school and community and make our community involvement meaningful and successful.

“I am confident, that by putting our students first, better education can be achieved.

“With your support, I will have the opportunity to serve our community and work daily for our students. Join me and exercise your right to vote!”
