Valedictorian of Falls City High School, Theresa Fenner, was selected to received the Hermann Sons Retirement Home Scholarship of $1,000. Making the presentation was Vernon Fenner, her grandfather and president of the local Karnes City Lodge 215-2. Five scholarships were awarded, one to each region in the state of Texas.

Signs in a local yard show that like many other parts of South Texas, Karnes County residents find themsleves caught in the grips of “Spurs Fever” as the San Antonio Spurs continue to compete against the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals for all the marbles. As of June 17, the best of 7 series stood at 3-2 with the Spurs leading and getting an opportunity to win it all in Miami on June 18.
