The Three Rivers ISD board of trustees has called for a bond election to be held in conjunction with the general election on Nov. 2.

The proposition on the ballot will ask voters to approve $11,185,000 to construct, acquire and equip a new high school/junior high school/administrative offices, and levying the tax in payment.

“It is costing the taxpayers of TRISD a great deal of money to keep these old buildings operating. I believe that the decision to move forward with a bond election and new construction is the best solution for the district,” said TRISD Superintendent Kenneth Rohrbach.

The decision to pursue a new school facility has been discussed at length by the board over the past six months, with its members weighing all possible solutions for the aged buildings which comprise the current high school and middle school. After much discussion and research, the decision was reached by the board that new construction was the best solution for the district.

“The response at the public meetings was very positive and we are ready to move forward with the project should the voters approve the bond,” Rohrbach added.

If approved by voters, the revenue from the sale of the bonds will construct an approximately 56,000-square foot facility which will house 7th-grade through 12th-grade classrooms, family and consumer science labs, library, science labs, offices, band hall, print shop and central administration offices.

Early voting for the TRISD bond election is under way at the school administration building, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The last day to vote early is Friday, Oct. 29.

On election day, Tuesday, Nov. 2, voting in the TRISD bond election will be conducted jointly with the general election from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The general election precinct 9 and TRISD precincts 9 and 10 are combined at the school administration building at 108 N. School Road in Three Rivers.

The general election and TRISD’s precinct 6, along with Bee County residents living in the Three Rivers ISD, will vote at the Ray Point Community Center, which is located at 116 CR 223.

The general election and TRISD voters in Precincts 3, 4, 5 and 11 will vote at the Simmons Community Center at 791 FM 1042 adjacent to the Baptist Church in Simmons.
