He was the youngest of eight children, born to Abelardo Garcia, Sr. and Paula Villarreal Garcia on May 4, 1940, in Berclair, Texas. He graduated from A.C. Jones High School in 1959. He served with the United States Marine Corps from 1959 to 1965. Abelardo worked at the NAS Chase Field in Beeville, Texas and retired form NAS Corpus Christi.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Maria Salinas Garcia; his children, Abel Garcia III and his wife Kris; his daughter, Yolanda Lehmberg and her husband Gary; his grandchildren, Abel Garcia IV and Emily Lehmberg. Abelardo is also survived by his sisters, Adela Salazar, Lillie Garcia and Helen Trujillo, all of Beeville, Texas. Abelardo enjoyed a close relationship with his brothers-in-law and his sisters-in-law, his nieces and nephews. Ableardo was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. He participated in many church activities including Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, CYO, St. Jude and parent organizations. He enjoyed baseball and coach many Beeville youths in city leagues. Abelardo will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his family and friends.
Visitation was held on Sunday, November 7, 2010 from 11:00 a.m. till 9:00 p.m. with a rosary held that evening at 7:00 p.m. at Trevino Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass was celebrated on Monday, November 8, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic. Friends and Family met at the church on Monday Morning; there was no procession from the funeral home. Burial followed at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery #2, with full Military Honors. Pallbearers were Rey Granado, Bobby Flores, Jimmy Baltazar, Alvezo Longoria, Alex Camacho and Jimmy “BoBo” Cantu.
Honorary pallbearers were the Class of 1959, Schulz & Wroten employees and Mrs. Wroten.
