A 46-year-old Sinton woman was injured Friday afternoon when her 2001 Ford Explorer flipped several times while heading north on U.S. Highway 181 just north of Papalote.

Laura Newberry suffered head injuries when her northbound SUV veered off the road just after 1 p.m. and then skidded across the northbound lanes and flipped two or three times in the median before coming to rest just inside the southbound lanes, officials said.

Highway Patrol Trooper Shawn Stephenson called for a HALO-Flight helicopter to take the woman to a Corpus Christi hospital for treatment. Firemen from Beeville and Papalote were at the scene along with Bee County Sheriff's Office deputies and emergency medical service personnel from Angel Care Ambulance Service.

Stephenson said he was not sure what caused the accident or of the extent of the women's injuries.

No further information was available on Friday.
