The Skidmore-Tynan Lady Cats varsity basketball team handled the Banquete Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday night with their patented defense, 54-20. It was the opening district battle for both teams.

The Lady Cats held the Banquete girls to seven first period points and the scoreboard still had just seven points on the Lady Bulldogs’ side at the half.

It was a 17-7 S-T lead at the end of the first eight minutes and that stretched out to a 26-7 advantage by the halftime buzzer.

The S-T girls hit for 26 second half points while keeping the Bulldogs in check with 13 markers.

Celina Acosta led the Lady Cat scoring attack with 17 points. Brittany Garza added 11 points while Amber Hughlett hit for nine. Kathy Acosta finished with eight in the win.

The victory raises the S-T Lady Cat record to 9-4 on the year and 1-0 in district play.

The Lady Cats were in Taft on Friday night to meet the Lady Greyhounds. The varsity girls will be on the road on Tuesday evening in San Diego. The JV squad will be competing in the Karnes City tournament on Monday.
