The S-T girls improved their overall record to 17-5 while keeping their district slate clean at 6-0.
The visiting Lady Badgers held a slim advantage, 18-17, at the end of the first quarter. The vaunted Lady Cat “D” then got going and kept the Lady Badgers in single digits for the remaining three quarters. Bishop scored only 21 points over the next three periods while the Lady Cats hit for 32 points.
S-T scored 16 points in the second while holding Bishop to eight. It was a 33-26 contest at the half.
The pace of the game slowed in the second half but the Lady Cats could still rely on their defense.
Three Lady Cats reached double figures. Brittany Garza hit for 15 points and Celina Acosta was only one back with 14. D’Anne Wilder recorded 10. Amber Hughlett contributed six while Samantha Minter and Tamara Merritt each had two tallies.
The Lady Cats traveled to Refugio on Friday night to wrap up the first round of district play. The S-T girls will still be on the road on Tuesday night when they hit the road to Banquete to meet the Lady Bulldogs.
