GW powerlifting team competes at Calallen

George West Power Lifting team competed at Calallen on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 18 and 19.

Yolanda Sanchez placed first in the varsity girls 165 weight class. She lifted 340 on the squats, 170 on the bench press, and 295 on the dead lift for a total of 805. She improved over last week by 25 pounds.

Juanita Carrillo placed second in the varsity girls 220+ weight class. She lifted 375 on the squats, 160 on the bench press, and 325 on the dead lift for a total of 860. She improved over her last meet by 50 pounds.

The girls team got first place in Division 2.

Yolanda Sanchez, in the 165 weight class and Juanita Carrillo, in the 220+ weight class both qualify for the regional power lifting meet in Calallen on March 5.

Adam Guerrero placed second in the varsity boys 165 weight class. He lifted 505 on the squats, 255 on the bench press, and 450 on the dead lift for a total of 1210. He improved over his last meet by 15 pounds.

Jacob Almaguer placed third in the varsity boys 132 weight class. He lifted 415 on the squats, 255 on the bench press, and 395 on the dead lift for a total of 1065. He improved over his last meet by 50 pounds.

Eli Garcia placed fourth in the varsity boys 275 weight class. He lifted 475 on the squats, 245 on the bench press, and 350 on the dead lift for a total of 1075. He improved over last week by five pounds.

Bryan Chesser competed in the varsity boys 220 weight class. He lifted 450 on the squats, 265 on the bench press, and 355 on the dead lift for a total of 1070. He improved over last week by 25 pounds.

Cody Brown competed in the varsity boys 123 weight class. He lifted 220 on the squats, 120 on the bench press, and 210 on the dead lift for a total of 560. He improved over last week by five pounds.

Also competing at the meet were Allison Bryce and Matthew Grimaldo.

The boy’s last chance to qualify for regionals is Saturday, Feb. 26 in Beeville.
