The driver of a Dodge Ram pickup that rolled on U.S. Highway 59 last Thursday was injured.

Emergency medical personnel at the scene of the accident said neither of the two men in the pickup suffered serious injury.

But a brother of the driver, 34-year-old Candelario David Moreno, said Moreno was later taken by a HALO-Flight helicopter to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital in Corpus Christi where he was in the intensive care unit Friday afternoon.

The accident was caused when an eastbound 18-wheeler from Alamo Transit Inc. of San Antonio started making a wide, right-hand turn from U.S. 59 onto FM Road 1349.

According to witnesses, the eastbound pickup was passing the semi-truck on the right when it clipped the bigger vehicle, ran into the drainage ditch on the south side of the highway and rolled several times.

The passenger of the pickup, 31-year-old Ramiro Garza, was walking around at the scene with a sore shoulder and he rode to Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville in the same ambulance with Moreno.

The driver of the big rig, 25-year-old Abel Anthony Sifuentes of San Antonio, was not treated for any injuries.
