In the San Antonio Livestock Show Beef Skill-A-Thon on Wednesday, Feb. 9, Kodye Neel placed first in the junior division; and HC Neel IV placed first and Reagan Ruddock placed third in the intermediate division.
HC Neel IV placed first in the junior individual division. Team members HC Neel, Kodye Neel, Reagan Ruddock and Derek Ressmann placed fifth of 203 teams and 806 individual competitors.
Dalton Klare placed in the top 10 percent at the contest of 105 teams and 336 individuals in the junior competition.
The contestants were tested on their knowledge of the beef cattle industry. Junior competitors took a test and then participated in a series of hand on stations where they had to identify types of equipment, medications, beef breeds, forages, feeds, and other categories.
Intermediate contestants also were given a test in the hands-on stations in the first round. The top five individuals were then moved into the final round.
Finalists went through a public interview on topics related to the cattle industry and then another set of hands-on activities.
