FIELD OF FAITH

Field of Faith, sponsored by the Karnes City Fellowship of Christian Athletes, will take place Wednesday, October 13 at 6 p.m. at Poss Johnson Field. All current high school students in the county are welcome to attend.



NEW BEGINNING BAPTIST CHURCH FUNDRAISER

New Beginning Baptist Church in Gillett is hosting a church fundraiser beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, October 15. Sausage plates will be on sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a silent auction will continue until noon. The Church is located at 18361 Hwy. 80. Go to Gillett, go one mile south on Hwy. 80, and the church is on the right.



KARNES CITY CHAMBER BAKE SALE

The Karnes City Chamber of Commerce will host a bake sale in front of the Chamber Office on Calvert Street on Friday, October 15 beginning at 7:30 a.m. Come buy some goodies and support your local Chamber.



HOSPITAL DISTRICT 35 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

The Karnes County Hospital District will celebrate 35 years of service to the community with refreshments and a mini health fair on Friday, October 15 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the hospital lobby at Otto Kaiser Memorial.



RUNGE CITIZENS PATROL

An informational and volunteer session for “Runge Citizen’s Patrol,” a group of volunteers working to deter crime in Runge, will take place on Saturday, October 16 at 6 p.m. at Runge City Hall. Volunteer registration is also available daily at city hall.



SIX SHOOTER JUNCTION GOLF TOURNAMENT

The Kenedy Chamber of Commerce Visitor and Tourism Center will host the Six Shooter Junction Shoot-Out Golf Tournament on Saturday, October 16, at the Karnes County Country Club. Tee off time is at 10 a.m. in a Shotgun Start, 4-man scramble format. Entry fee is $75 per person and includes cart, green fee, one mulligan, drive on Hole No. 18, and refreshments. The tournament is limited to the first 80 players. You are not guaranteed to be entered until payment is received. Carts are limited; therefore we would appreciate it if anyone could bring their own golf cart. Prizes are as follows:  First – $1,000, Second – $500, and Third – $300. Prize money is based on 80 players and is subject to change based on the number of paid players. We will announce all changes prior to tee-off.  You may mail entries to: Kenedy Chamber of Commerce, 205 S. Second St., Kenedy, Texas, 78119. CESTOHOWA TURKEY DINNER & TURKEY SHOOT

The Annual Cestohowa Turkey Dinner and Turkey Shoot will take place on Sunday, October 17 in Cestohowa. Lunch will be served beginning at 11 a.m. The Turkey Shoot will begin at noon. Trophies will be awarded. Other activities include bingo, a cake stand, pie booth, children’s activities and a sportsman’s raffle. Tamales and other treats will be sold throughout the afternoon. Fun for the whole family, please join us.



CHICKEN BBQ FUNDRAISER

The Kenedy Rotary Club will host a Chicken BBQ on Sunday, October 17. Tickets may be purchased from any Kenedy Rotarian for $7. Plates can be picked up at Joe Gulley Park in Kenedy from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Proceeds will fund scholarships for Karnes County students.



KENEDY CEMETERY ASSOCIATION

The Kenedy Cemetery Association will hold its regular quarterly meeting on Tuesday, October 19, at 6:30 p.m. at Barth’s Restaurant. Everyone interested in the association is encouraged to attend.



RETIRED TEACHERS’ ASSOCIATION

The Karnes County Retired Teachers’ Association will meet at Barth’s Restaurant in Kenedy on Wednesday, October 20 at 2:30 p.m. All members are urged to attend.



NORDHEIM BAND FUN FESTIVAL

The Nordheim Pirate Band Fall Fun Festival sponsored by the Nordheim Pirate Band Boosters will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. in and around the school cafeteria on Saturday, October 23. The meal being served will include a choice of quarter pound burgers, cheeseburgers, chips, drinks and desserts. Many fun game booths for all ages will be in full swing including Face Painting, Duck Pond, Fish Pond, Bean Bag Toss, Target Drop, Marble Shoot, Basketball Shoot, Football Throw, and others. Not to be left out will be bingo and a Cakewalk. The Senior Class will be sponsoring a Country Store for those who are into shopping. Monies raised will be used to defer the costs of running a band program as needed with hopes for some new equipment.



INDIAN SUMMER ON THE OLD CHISHOLM TRAIL FESTIVAL

The Indian Summer Festival On the Old Chisholm Trail will take place at the Helena Courthouse Museum at Highway 80 and FM 81 in Helena on Saturday, October 23 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free, and the event will include folkloric dancers, storytellers, arts and crafts, a petting zoo, pony rides, food, live music, face painting, a doll show, a bake shoppe, a country store and more. Tale spinner and storyteller David Bowles will share as well as Texas Winds: Native American Music with Alicia Caballero. The Karnes City High School High Steppers and the Karnes County Honor Guard will also perform.



HEALTHY MEALS FOR BUSY FAMILIES

The holidays are just around the corner. Come join our next edition of “Healthy Meals for Busy Families.” Taste some new recipes and learn about ‘Healthy Holiday Eating’. The class will take place on Tuesday, October 26, at 6:30 p.m. at the Karnes City United Methodist Church, located at 201 N. Esplanade. Please RSVP. GIRL SCOUTS SEEKING DONATIONS

Girl Scout Brownie Troop No. 2722 in Karnes City is seeking donations to help purchase Girl Scout uniforms and to fund its summer camp trip. Daisy uniforms are $38.40, which consists of a blue smock and the patches that represent the troop and council. Brownie uniforms are $40.75 and consist of a brown vest with the patches that represent the troop and council. Junior uniforms are $35, which consist of a green sash with the patches that represent the troop and council. For more details, contact troop leader Monica Gonzales at 830-534-9131.

KCHS CLASS OF 1980 REUNION

The 1980 graduates of Karnes City High School are planning their 30-year reunion. The planning committee is currently trying to locate individuals who graduated from Karnes City High School in 1980. They specifically need current mailing and/or email addresses. RUNGE LIBRARY

SOCIAL HOUR

Every Monday through Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. The Runge Public Library will be hosting a free afternoon social. All adults are welcome to drop by and play games, do puzzles, create crafts, and/or chat. Coffee, conversation, snacks, an air-conditioned room, and it’s all free. We’ve got playing cards, board games, dominos, and jigsaw puzzles available, and someone’s always on hand whether you’d like to do something or just sit around and talk about nothing in particular. So come on by and join us.
