On Monday, March 7, the A.C. Jones High School Construction Technology Classes participated in the SkillsUSA District Contest in Victoria.

These contests recognize the achievements of career and technical education students and encourage them to strive for excellence and pride in their chosen fields. Students benefit from the competitions no matter how high they place. They learn more about the skills in which they compete.

In carpentry, contestants are required to complete a project specifically designed to test overall carpentry skills which include framing, blueprint reading and proper use of tools and equipment.

Jose Amador came back with a gold medal in carpentry. Amador will compete at the state level in carpentry on April 1 at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi.

In TeamWorks, students work in a team of four to build a joint project. Students use skills in masonry, plumbing and electricity to complete the project. The A.C. Jones team came back with a silver medal in TeamWorks. Team members are Manley Pace, Jose Luna, Jarod Garcia and Chris Dominguez.

In three other fields, Beeville had the following winners:

Daniel Flores – 3rd in plumbing

Benito Perez – 4th in masonry

Larry Cruz – 4th in carpentry

Instructors Martin Montez and David Rodriguez are proud of their students’ performance at the district contest and would like to congratulate them for doing a great job representing A.C. Jones.
