Tynan had a population of 305 souls in 2008, according to a state resource book.

The small hamlet located in the southwest section of Bee County grew by one on Friday.

Kiana Rose Flores was born at 4:04 p.m. Jan. 2 at Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville — the first child born in Bee County in 2009.

She is the daughter of Anthony and Kaycee Flores of Tynan.

Kiana entered the world at 7 pounds, 5 ounces and stood 20 3/4 inches tall.

She was welcomed home by her sister Kaylee, 4, brother Anthony Jr., 8, and sister Nikki, 18.

Also on hand to welcome Kiana home were her maternal grandparents, Dennis and Sena Perry.

Kiana’s paternal grandparents are Manuel Flores of Alice and Lupita Lopez of Crystal City.

Kaycee, 25, works at Tractor Supply Co. in Beeville while attending college. Anthony Sr. is a correctional officer at the Garza prison near Beeville.

Kaycee said she was shopping in Corpus Christi with her mother and grandmother on Thursday, Jan. 1, when she went into labor.

She waited until her contractions were close before calling the hospital.

“They said no one else was (delivering a baby) at the hospital at the moment and for me to go ahead and come on in,” Kaycee recalled.

The young mom arrived around 6 p.m. and didn’t deliver her child until midafternoon the following day.

Area merchants showered the couple with gifts for the newborn. Donating gifts were Kids Corner, Wal-Mart Supercenter, Copper Rooster, Walgreens, nurses aide Mary Jane Cantu, Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville, H-E-B Food Store and the labor-delivery-recovery staff at the hospital.
