Bee County sheriff’s deputies are still investigating the death of a 2-year-old girl in Pawnee Friday evening.

Investigator Adam Levine said the dispatcher at the sheriff’s office got a call at 7:25 p.m. from a family living on State Highway 72 near Pawnee.

The investigator said that a great-grandfather who lived in the home is a truck driver who received a call to haul a load.

Family members went outside to tell the great-grandfather goodbye and as he was leaving, making a U-turn, the 2-year-old apparently ran out and was struck by a tire on the truck’s trailer.

The great-grandfather was unable to see the child because she was on the right side of the vehicle.

Levine said no names are being released because the incident is still under investigation.

“It was just a tragic accident,” Levine said Monday.
