JV track teams run, jump to earn places at Alice meet

The A.C. Jones junior varsity track teams were in Alice last week to compete at the Coyote Relays with some good results, according to the coaches.

The JV Trojans placed third overall with 94 points. The host Coyotes captured first place with a whopping 238 points, while King was second at 102 points.

Trojan Roger Salazar was third in the long jump, clearing 17-4. Strong man Brent Puga placed third in the discus with a toss of 103-8 and was second in the shot put with a throw of 39-11. Aric Gamez was fourth in the shot put with a 34-8 effort.

Mauricio Solis was second in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 12:22.56. The Beeville 400-meter relay team placed third in 47.39 (no names provided). Kurt Treviño placed fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:20.29, and Darius Thomas finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles.

The 800-meter relay squad placed third with a time of 1:41.23. Salazar placed third in the 400-meter dash with a good time of 57.96, just .57 of a second out of first place in the close race. Trojan Steven Garcia earned second place points for Beeville in the 200-meter race with a time of 24.89.

In the 1,600-meter run, Jacob Calderon placed third in 5:19.13, and teammate Freddy Rodriguez was sixth in 5:52.04. The 1,600-meter relay team ran to a third place spot in 3:55.51.

In the JV girls’ division, the Lady Trojans placed third overall with 74 points. The Carroll Lady Tigers captured first with 185 points, and King was second with 108.

Lady Trojan Cheyenne DelBosque placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 14-0 1/2, and teammate Sarah Draper was fifth at 13-11. Draper placed third in the triple jump at 29-3 1/2. The 400-meter relay team finished third in 54.99 (no names provided).

Draper placed fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:45.80, and Alexis was right behind her in fifth at 2:46.14. Sydney Wesson blazed her way to a second place spot in the 100-meter dash in a quick 13.66. The 800-meter relay team finished second to Carroll with a time of 2:00.10.

Lady Trojan Brianna Saenz placed fourth in the 200-meter dash in 30.48. The relay team in the 1,600-meter event placed third overall with a time of 4:39.08.

The JV teams were in Port Lavaca on Wednesday and Thursday for the District 30-4A meet that will wrap up their season.
