A win would give the Lady Trojan JV the district championship; anything less and Tuesday night’s opponent, the Ladycats from G-P, would be the top team.
The Beeville JV softball squad struck for five runs in the second inning to erase an early 2-0 G-P advantage. The Lady Trojans got a leadoff triple from Andrea Briseno. Tif’ni Puebla reached and Priscilla Koenig laid down a good bunt to bring in a run and she was followed by another bunt off the bat of Alexis Pelitire. A G-P throwing error helped plate another run along with the final hit of the inning off Alyssa Bates’ bat.
The Lady Trojans would not score again as the Ladycat hurler settled along with their defense. The Beeville girls also played well defensively and the score was still 5-2 going into the final frame.
G-P turned two hits and two untimely Beeville errors in the top of the fifth into three big runs to tie the game at 5-5. The Lady Trojans would have one last chance to score and bring home the district crown.
The A.C. Jones girls made contact in the bottom of the fifth, but the first two hitters sent shots right back at the defense for easy outs. Bates singled to give them some hope but the next hitter hit right back to the G-P pitcher who threw to first for the final out.
The time limit had expired and the game was called at 5-5. The Lady Trojans finished second in district.
“It was a good game as always as we face G-P. We held our own fate but had to settle for a tie. I am still very proud of them,” said JV head coach Jason Hinds.
“A couple of late hits and bad throws and we let them back in the game. I still think we are a better team.”
Briseno led the JV’s in hitting with a .652 average on the year. Adrianna Baltazar earned the most wins in the circle for the JV girls. Marissa Rodriguez was the team’s best base stealer.
