Seventh-grade GW Lady Yearlings win district title for 2001 track season

The Lady Yearlings finished their 2011 track season as District Champs. It was a close fought race among their district teams to the finish. The results of the meet were as follows:

Shot put — Taylor Thompson, 29’ 8.75”, second

Discus — Taylor Thompson, 60’ 9.5”, second

Triple jump — Bella Chapa, 27’ 4”, sixth

High jump — Bella Chapa, 4’2”, third; Walker Wright, 3’10”, fifth (tie)

Pole vault — Sierra Benavidez, 5’ 6”, first

800-meter run — Christina Sok, 2:45, third

800-meter relay — Kailey Keach, Taylor Thompson, Lindsay Hajek, Mykala Blevens, 2:09.33, sixth

400-meter dash — Baeja Miles, 65.5, first; Bella Chapa, 69.6, third

200-meter dash — Baeja Miles, 29.4, first; Bella Chapa, 30.6, third

1600-meter relay — Christina Sok, Mykala Blevens, Bella Chapa, Baeja Miles, 4:41.8, first

Other Lady Yearlings participating in but not placing were Carissa Cansino, Michaela Wendland, Katelynn Kegebein, Miah Baker, Bryana Lopez, and Meaghan Teague.

The team missed the contributions of teammates Elly Williamson (broken wrist from fall in previous Dilley meet) and Summer Garza in this meet. Manager Morgan Miller (broken foot from basketball) did a great job all season helping Coach Troell and the girls.

The Lady Yearlings and Coach Troell would like to thank all of the help given this season both to her and the girls from Coaches Cathy Taylor, Kayla Stewart, Lonnie Taylor, Steve Stone, and Gary Morgan. Thanks to all.
