Coastal Bend College Cougar point guard Ashton Brown will be playing in Kingsville for the next two years. Brown signed his letter of intent to be a Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelina earlier this week. Brown, who averaged a little over 12 points and four assists for the Cougars last year, will be on full scholarship and is majoring in biology.

The Coastal Bend College Cougars and Lady Cougars have finished their athletic seasons but the activity at the athletic department is still going full blast.

Cougar point guard Ashton Brown recently signed a full-ride two-year scholarship with the Texas A&M University-Kingsville Javelinas. The Buffalo, N.Y., native averaged a little more than 12 points per game for the Cougars and dished out four assists per tilt.

Charles Mells, a 6-11 post for the Cougars, was recently invited to attend a showcase of the top 100 JUCO talent from across the nation. The CBC center will be part of the St. Louis camp for big men at the showcase.

Cougar Tanner Ellenburg will attend UT Permian Basin next year on scholarship to continue his studies and to play some basketball for the Falcons.

Head basketball coach Larry Mendez has 10 players signed already for next year and has been busy on the recruiting trail, scouting players and talking to other coaches.

The softball program at CBC continues to build for next year with the signing of Tuloso-Midway athlete Taylor Reeves.

The Lady Cougar volleyball program also has been busy with tryouts and signed A.C. Jones’ Shanise Wilson to a letter of intent on Wednesday to play along the front line for coach Kristin Clee-Charlton.

The men’s soccer program will be under the tutelage of a new/old coach whose name will be announced upon the signing of his contract.

The team is holding tryouts Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Joe Hunter Field. The Cougars hopefully will play a home schedule of games this year.
