Pastor Jim Pogue today talked about the Holy Spirit. Genesis 1:26 says: “Let US make man in our image.” The word: “Us” refers to the Trinity, i.e. the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit was with us from the beginning!

1st Corinthians 12 shows different kinds of spiritual gifts which are 9, namely: wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miraculous powers, prophecy, distinguishing between spirits, tongues and interpretation of tongues. Speaking in tongues is for the edification of the body of Christ.

John 14:25-26 says: “All these things I have spoken to you while I was still with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything.” John 16:7-8 says: “But I tell you the truth: It is good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. When He comes, He will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment.” Jesus had to die first, rise from the dead, and go back to heaven before the Holy Spirit could come down. Acts 1:14 reports Jesus saying: “Do not leave Jerusalem but wait for the gift my Father has promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

Acts 2:1-14 shows the mighty baptism of the Holy Spirit coming down on Pentecost. Tongues of fire came down on each of them and they began to speak in tongues as the Holy Spirit enabled them. The Holy Spirit is grieved when people today say: “Oh this was 2000 years ago and not for today.” Speaking in tongues IS FOR TODAY and if you make fun of it this, it grieves Him and He won’t go anywhere uninvited. Peter after being baptized by the Holy Spirit become courageous and 3,000 new believers were brought in! Do you want the Holy Spirit’s power and Him as best friend, to wake up saying: “Good morning Holy Spirit?” Say: Father in the name of Jesus baptize me in the Holy Spirit; I want to make you my best friend!
