All three teams lost to the Lady Mustangs. The JV and freshman squads lost in two straight sets while the varsity match was a 3-0 sweep for the home teams.
To begin the morning, the freshman squads took to the court. Ingleside captured set one of the best of three series, 25-14, and then fought off a determined young Lady Trojan team to capture the second set, 25-17.
Marissa Medellin led the Beeville defense with 10 digs. Lorena Rosales had two kills and Brianna Gobel came up with seven digs and two kills.
“The girls gave a great defensive effort in both matches but miscommunication and lack of teamwork kept the Lady Trojans from the win,” said freshman coach Jessica Pittman.
In the JV match, the Lady Mustangs won in two straight (scores not available).
“We fought hard and are hitting the ball consistently and the girls are playing tenacious defense,” said JV coach Katina Walker.
In one set, the Lady Trojans fought back from a 10-point deficit to make a contest of it but the bounce of the ball went Ingleside’s way at the end for the win.
“We are improving each week. I believe we will get it to go our way,” Walker said.
Adrianna Baltazar and Eddika Ortega each had four kills in the match. Ortega also came up with three assists and two aces. Rebecca De Los Santos contributed five assists.
In the varsity match, the Lady Mustangs stampeded to a 2-0 start in the best of five match with two wins by identical 25-14 scores. The third set was a closer race to 25 but the Mustang girls were there first at 25-19 for the 3-0 sweep.
“The Lady Trojans were very scrappy on Saturday. We had some high points, but were unable to pull off a victory,” said head coach LaMech Thomas.
Brennan Holder hit for 10 kills and Victoria Elizalde contributed eight. Elizalde also added eight assists. Tori Munoz had two assists. Brianna Jackson served for one ace as did Elizalde. Holder blocked three Lady Mustang hits at the net while LaMetra Thomas had two blocks. Munoz led the defense with 10 digs and Holder had nine.
The Lady Trojans hosted the Victoria East Lady Titans on Tuesday night and will entertain the Gregory-Portland Lady Wildcats on Friday evening.
