Beeville Police Department Patrolman John Berry takes aim through 3.5-15 power Nightforce rifle scope during the early hours of a week of special weapons and tactics training at the Police Training Center Monday afternoon. Bee County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Jennifer Lopez waits her turn for a peak through the $1,500 scope. The rifle underneath the scope is a Remington X-40 sniper rig with a 20-inch barrel brought to town by Austin Police Department SWAT training officer and sniper Robert Leal. Leal, who was once a BPD patrol officer before moving to Austin, is in town all week with APD Bomb Squad officer Robert Nuñez training SWAT officers from Karnes and Bee counties.
