The Little Acorn Study Club met in the Fellowship Hall of the Three Rivers United Methodist Church Nov. 17.

We had 11 members and two guests present. President Norma Newport opened our meeting.

Program Director Madge Patton introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Susan Greene of Calliham. Our other guest was Mrs. Robin Curbello, Club member Mrs. Mozelle Ploch’s daughter.

Mrs. Greene is a busy and ambitious young woman. She has a very good outlook on life, marriage, children, and the places she has lived, the store in Calliham and her many interests in life. She came to the Study Club meeting to discuss “The Art of Jewelry Making.” She also told us she was from New York City! And we just had to ask how in the world did she in up in Calliham!

Susan and her husband Bryan have been married 10 years and have five children between them and they are now expecting their second grandchild.

She attended the High School of Art and Design and continued to pursue her interest in the arts throughout her college years. She is a certified high school art education; her career in art has led her down various avenues. Besides designing clothing and jewelry (which she has been doing since the age of 14) she worked with very prestigious home builders in New York and New Jersey. She has designed houses; offices; health clubs, country clubs etc. She has also designed albums covers and posters. She gives tips on applying make-up; and paint for homes; home decor- lighting is the most important aspect in these. You have to have good lighting to enhance your beauty, your home etc.

In her jewelry making process she began by studying the benefits of crystals and stones in healing. She tries to combine crystals, beads and stones in making a necklace, bracelet, earrings, and ankle bracelets etc. Her necklaces are fashioned to where any woman of any age can fasten them without much trouble. As an added bonus they also expandable for larger sized women. All her jewelry is one of a kind.

She also helps her husband with operating the Calliham Store in Calliham which they own. She was asked why she and her husband came to South Texas.

She and her husband Bryan worked hard in the eastern part of the United States but after 9/11 they were downsized and began to look elsewhere for a living. Her husband had worked in the TV industry and traveled a lot in Texas. So he found out about the Calliham Store being for sale and they purchased it about five years ago. You can see their businesses online at www.callihamstore.com and www.PrettyThingsBySusan.etsy.com.

You need to meet Susan Greene; she has a very good sense of humor! Easy to talk with and very personable.

Our hostesses for this month Mrs. Donna Courtney and Mrs. Ann Esse. We served fruit cake, cheese slices & crackers, vegetable tray, cookies, and hot cinnamon tea.
