Police release details about fatal accident near Karnes City

A Karnes City woman was killed and a San Antonio woman was injured in a three vehicle accident that happened approximately one mile north of Karnes City in the afternoon on Wednesday, Nov. 23.

According to information from DPS, San Antonio resident Tammy Biediger, 53, was driving a gray sedan was in the southbound lane of US Highway 181 waiting to turn into a business parking lot when she was hit from behind by a one ton flatbed truck driven by Victoria resident Ricky R. Budd, who wasn't injured.

The impact of the collision pushed the car Biediger was driving into the northbound lane causing her to collide head-on with another car driven by Marilyn Bednorz, 61, a resident of Karnes City and an employee who worked in the county clerk's office in Karnes City.

The impact caused Biediger to be ejected through the passenger side of the vehicle.

Bednorz was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Biediger was airlifted to University Hospital in critical condition.

The accident is still under investigation.
