The seventh-grade B girls took the Calallen squad to overtime before dropping a close, hard-fought game, 19-18. The loss dropped the Lady Trojans in the consolation side of the tournament for their next game.
The Alice Lady Coyotes provided little opposition in game two as the Beeville girls rolled by the Coyotes, 29-7. In the consolation bracket finals, the Lady Trojans continued their good play and defeated the West Oso Lady Bears, 18-8, to capture the trophy.
Marissa Cisneros led the Lady Trojans in scoring in the tournament, accumulating 16 points in the three games. Gabby Aguirre followed with 12 points in the tournament. Mitch Chavarria and Asheleigh Barrientez both hit for eight points total. Ana Casas contributed six points, and Emile Bozant and Mowdy Sanchez each scored four. Maddie Zambrano added two points.
“Good job, ladies,” said MMS coach Sonia Cano.
The 8B team won its first contest of the tournament, downing Calallen 20-10. Jainie Cano led the team with eight points, while Amber Waddell hit for six tallies in the win.
Game two had the Beeville girls up against the Tuloso-Midway Cherokees. It was a defensive struggle, but the young T-M squad pulled away late for a 16-9 win.Waddell hit for a team-high four points in the loss.
The third contest of the weekend was with the host Flour Bluff girls. The Moreno girls continued to have trouble scoring and the Lady Hornets escaped with a 15-8 victory.
Cano contributed four points, all in the first period, for the MMS scoring.
“It was a good experience for the ladies. We were able to see areas that we need to improve on before our district season starts,” said coach Amber Orchard.
The B teams will be back in action on Monday with a road encounter with the Alice Lady Coyotes.
