The Beeville Poetry Café will conclude the 2011 season on Thursday with a review of a new book that will be presented to the Joe Barnhart Bee County Library and the Bee County Chamber of Commerce for their permanent collection and for public viewing.

The book is titled The Beeville Writers and contains the work of 20 participants from a 2011 creative writing contest and whose work was published by the Poetry Café of Beeville. The rights of the work remain exclusively the writer’s.

This work includes poetry, a vignette, short stories, a pledge, two different stories submitted separately by a husband and wife, an essay, an epic fantasy portrayal and a poignant Spanish poem.

Contributing writers include Yanet Ybanez, Roberta Dobie, John E. Ellis, Kay Past, David Carlson, Kenneth Chesshir, Stephen Hrncir, Marcos B. Torres III, Linda Lewis, Steve Linam, D. Russell, Tessie A. Lewis, Doris Smith, Joyce S. Winters, Daniel G. Winters, Brianna Gonzales, Christina Perez, Bobby Delgado, Kaleigh Brown and Jeremiah Lee Fox.

The works were judged by the Coastal Bend College English Department, and the winning entry was chosen solely based on content, the message and clarity of the work.

The Poetry Café is presented yearly at the Joe Barnhart Bee County Library by local poet Natalie Arispe to provide a setting for writers to read their work in front of a live audience with an open microphone. All writers are welcome. The sessions are held from August through December in the Dougherty Room at the library.

The last session for this season will begin at 7 p.m. and continue until 8:30. For more information, call 542-9743.
