The win ups the S-T season record to 16-9 and their district record to 2-0.
It was a 12-8 tilt at the end of one period with the hometown ladies holding the four-point advantage. The lead jumped to 27-17 by halftime and the Lady Cats were on their way to another district victory.
“We didn’t get off to a great start, we turned the ball over way too much. In the second half, the girls cut the turnovers down and did a great job of hustling up and down the court in a very good win over Odem,” said Lady Cat head coach Joseph Grimes III.
The Skidmore-Tynan defense finished things off in the third period. The visitors managed just five points then while the Lady Cats poured 20 through the net. Entering the final eight minutes, the Lady Cats were in control at 47-22.
The pace was quick in the final stanza as the defenses took a break and a run-and-gun period entertained the crowd. The Owls hit for 18 in the final quarter while the Lady Cats tossed in 22 to make it a 69-40 final.
Rachel Mengers hit for 16 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for a nice “double-double” for the Lady Cats. Sagan Gabbert followed with 11 points and Ashley Scott joined in the double figure parade with 10. Devon Wilder and Alexis Schmidt both recorded nine points in the win. Jennifer Pueblo had eight tallies. Tabatha Crow contributed four while Alexis White and D’Anne Wilder added one each to the scoring total.
The S-T girls were at home last night to play the Taft Lady Greyhounds.
Tuesday night the Lady Cats will entertain the Banquete Lady Bulldogs.
