The Skidmore-Tynan girls played some tough defense through the first three quarters, allowing the Refugio team no more that six points per quarter.
It was an 11-5 game at the end of one period and 22-10 at halftime. The S-T advantage grew to 36-16 by the end of the third period.
The visitors rallied in the fourth period as the S-T Lady Cats eased off the pressure. Refugio came on strong and got back in the game with 25 points that quarter. The Lady Cats scored just enough to maintain a lead and captured the important district contest 45-41.
The win stretches the S-T girls’ record to 16-6 overall and 7-0 in district play so far this year. Refugio falls to 11-11 on the year and stands at 3-4 in district.
Brittany Garza led the S-T scoring with 17 points. Kathy Acosta followed with 10. Amber Hughlett hit for nine points in the win, while D’Anne Wilder contributed five. Erica Nevarez and Samantha Minter each had two.
In the junior varsity contest, the S-T girls captured a 28-24 overtime win over the Refugio JV squad.
