VICTORIA – The Trojans opened their spring tennis campaign at Victoria West’s tournament over the weekend.

Results from the tournament were:


Boys singles

Trojan Eric Dehnert won the singles’ competition by going 3-0 in the tournament.

In the finals, Dehnert defeated Trevor Gittinger (Rockport-Fulton), 2-6, 6-0, 10-8. In the semi-finals, Dehnert defeated David Torres (Yoakum), 6-0, 6-0, and in the quarterfinals he defeated Christian Martinez (San Antonio Memorial), 6-0, 6-0.

Boys doubles

Graham Traylor and Colton Wren won the consolation title with a 3-1 record. They suffered a first round loss to McBurney and Krupa of Rockport-Fulton, 8-4.

In the consolation quarterfinals, Traylor and Wren defeated Burns and Moina of San Antonio Memorial, 8-1.

In the semifinals, Traylor and Wren defeating Sainz/Ariaga (Calhoun), 8-4. In the consolation finals, the Beeville duo topped Monterroso/Booth of Yoakum, 8-3, for the crown.

Mixed doubles

Trojans Ora Bruns and Roberto Reyna captured the consolation championship in mixed doubles. The Beeville tandem lost their first round match, 8-4, to Rose/Huff (Rockport-Fulton). In the quarter-finals, Bruns and Reyna defeated Torres/Reese (Bay City), 8-3.

In the consolation bracket semifinals, the Beeville duo defeated Goliad’s Elliot/Schneider (Goliad), 8-4. The final match of the consolation mixed doubles had the Beeville partners capturing an 8-4 win over another Goliad team of Phillips and Wood.

Other results

Girls doubles

Lady Trojans Megan Burris and Cori Moore made it to the semifinals before bowing out. In the first round the two defeated Martinez/Vasquez (Victoria West), 8-1. In their next match, the two defeated Correa/Shields (Yoakum), 6-2, 6-0.

The Beeville girls lost in the semifinals against a Rockport/Fulton duo of Miller/Silva 6-4, 6-1.

Girls singles

Lady Trojan Marisela Ibarra reached the consolation semifinals. She finished the tournament at 1-2.

Ibarra lost in the first round to Brittney Morales (Kennedy H.S.), 8-2.

In her next match, Ibarra defeated Gonzalez (Calhoun), 8-6. Then, in the semifinals of the consolation bracket, Clare Hickner (Victoria East) defeated Ibarra, 8-2.

Boys doubles

Trojans Brandon Lucio and Jesse Barrera teamed up for a 1-1 record at Victoria. The Beeville duo won their first round match 6-0, 6-0 over Karl/Nordstrand (Yoakum).

The day came to a close for the Trojans in the quarterfinals as Lucio and Barrera lost to Harrison/Pechin (Rockport-Fulton), 6-2, 6-0.

Boys singles

Trojan Bill Rivas finished the tournament 1-2 with a first round defeat by Keith Ressler from Yoakum, 8-1. Rivas picked up his win in the consolation quarterfinals with a 8-4 win over Ortiz (Kennedy). In the semi-finals, Christian Tuazon (Calhoun) defeated Rivas, 8-1.

Mixed doubles

Beeville’s Cori Sparks and Eddie Sifuentes went 1-2 in the tourney. Bueltel/Langforg (Rockport-Fulton) defeated Sparks and Sifuentes, 6-0, 6-0 in the first round. Sparks/Sifuentes then defeated Blier/Hardegree (Victoria East), 8-1. In the next round, Phillips/Wood (Goliad) defeated Sparks/Sifuentes, 8-1.

The Trojans will participate in the Tuluso-Midway Invitational this coming Friday and Saturday in Corpus Christi.
