Our sermon message today centered on entering in and staying in the Promised Land. To enter in, Pastor Jim said you must do something. This is not a magic pill! You must be willing to go to church, pray and spend time with God. James says faith without works profits you nothing, meaning when you believe in God you must do what He tells you to do!
When a person gets saved and they sin they are convicted by the Holy Spirit not to sin. Sin such as gossiping and hurting your neighbor will convict you to stop it! God has you do something and that is to keep the 10 Commandments which are not 10 suggestions but 10 commands! Deuteronomy 4:1-2 says:”Here now O Israel, the decrees and laws I am about to teach you. Follow them so that you may live and may go in and take possession of the land that the Lord, the God of your fathers, is giving you. Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you.” Deuteronomy 6:1-4 say: “These are the commands, decrees and laws the Lord your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land you are crossing, so that you, your children after you may fear the Lord your God as long as you live by keeping all His decrees and commands that I give you, and so you may enjoy long life. Hear O Israel and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your Fathers promised you. Hear O Israel, The Lord our God is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” Verses 5-9 state the same. God wants us to talk about these commands all the time even putting them on our foreheads and on our door frames of our houses and gates! These 10 commands boil down to just two: love God and love your neighbor as yourself!
Proverbs 3:1-4 tells us to keep the commands in our heart and we will win the Lord’s favor when we follow them! We are to write these commandments in our hearts, in our homes, offices and everywhere we are!
John 3:16 says: “For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son so that whoever believes shall not die but have eternal life.” This statement proves God’s love for us! God wants you to have everything and much more! He asks us to follow Him so we can have life and have it more abundantly!
Hebrews 3:7 says today if you hear His heart to not harden your hearts. Verse 10 says there are hearts that are going astray and have not known God’s ways! If you don’t believe Jesus Christ died for you, you cannot enter into the Promised Land! If you have faith He will take you to your Promised Land! He will let you in but you must fight for it and follow God’s commandments and do what He wants you to do! Verse 12-13 tell us to encourage one another daily to do all He commands us. Verse 14-15 says much. The question we ask is will you follow God and enter the Promised Land? Do you realize where you are in your spiritual journey? Have you been saved? You need to be saved so that you can realize how much He loves you!
Look at your heart! Do you really know Jesus as Lord and Saviour? Pray now if you don’t! Ask Jesus into your heart and tell Him you can’t make it without Him and that your believe in your heart in Jesus death and resurrection. Jesus promised you the Holy Spirit so ask Jesus to let the Holy Spirit fall on you! Make it a simple prayer and when you do you are saved!
If you have been saved but have bad habits ask God to help you take a stand! Ask Him for help and pray saying.”Father I messed up in my thoughts and have broken the 10 Commandments. Forgive me of my sins; only You can help me fix my problems. This day help me! Spirit of the Living God convict me! I give you permission to change me!”
If you are ready to go into the Promised Land pray this: “Father in Jesus name, be with me as I go into my Promised Land. Be with me this day, grant me favor and convict me when I get off path in Jesus name I pray! Amen!”
