The company expects to finish the new Amber Stone Apartments at 210 E. Crockett St. in about six months, said City Building Inspector Lanny Holland.
Each permit issued was for one of three buildings that will house 54 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments on property where the Windsong Apartments now stand.
Holland said those apartments are almost all vacant now, and he expected demolition of the WWII era buildings to begin as soon as the last of the current tenants are gone.
The new facility will be a gated community with a clubhouse, playground and pool.
The buildings will be brick veneer with attractive stone trim. Each unit will be equipped with either a patio or balcony.
