The Singing Men of South Texas will present a free gospel music concert at the Floresville Event Center on Mar. 8 at 7 p.m. All are invited to attend and enjoy the variety of gospel music. The Singing Men of South Texas is composed of Ministers of Music and church musicians from churches in South Texas from Georgetown to McAllen and Del Rio to Port Lavaca. Tommy Lyons has been director of the group since 1979. Six other such groups as this go together to form Singing Men of Texas, and are an arm of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Besides doing one concert per month in this area of the state, this group participates in music missions around the world. The group just completed a choir project to Bethlehem, Israel in December 2011 and is looking forward to a project to the Ukraine in September 2012.

The Singing Men will lunch at Jack's Cafe in Floresville before performing a mini concert at the Tejeda Veterans Home at 12:30 p.m. The event is being co-hosted by the First Baptist Church of La Vernia, First Baptist Church of Floresville, First Baptist Church of Pleasanton, and First Baptist Church of Kenedy. The choirs from these churches will join the Singing Men for two songs during the concert.

The free concert will begin at 7 p.m. at the Floresville Event Center, 600 Hwy 97W, just west of Floresville on Hwy 97. The Singing Men can be contacted via their website
