An early morning accident claimed the life of a 19-year-old Karnes County man Thursday, March 1.

Shortly after 6 a.m., a 1998 Kenworth truck, driven by Alejandro Arizpe, pulling a flatbed trailer was struck by a 1998 GMC pickup driven by Tommy "Tray" Vickery III.

The truck and trailer was turning left onto State Highway 239 when leaving a truck yard at the time of the accident.

The pickup struck the right side of the trailer close to the rear wheels.

Vickery was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Justice of the Peace Hilda Castro.

The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation but it is believed the morning fog was a contributing factor.

More information related to this story will be reported at mysoutex.com as it becomes available.

This is a very dangerous intersection now. It is such because last year an oil service company decided to locate their yard only about 250 feet from the Y intersection and in a bad blind spot. I almost rear ended one of their trailers as it was turning into the yard in the early morning hours. It would seem reasonable that some of these business or Tex Dot review their business locations in the interest of public safety.
