GW Longhorns baseball continues winning streak

The George West Varsity baseball team won two key district games this past week. On Tuesday night, the Longhorns defeated the Cotulla Cowboys by a score of 16-3. Tyler Townsend pitched a complete game. He struck out 11 Cowboys and gave up five hits and two earned runs. Townsend improved his pitching record to 6-0 on the season. The Longhorns pounded out 15 hits. Bobby Torres was 2-2 with a triple, Brady Jones 2-3 with a triple, Derek Cantu 2-3 with a double, Caleb Montgomery 3-4, Jeffrey Hardwick 2-4, Seth Pipkin, Andrew Katzfey, Chris Ruiz, Trae Smith, Lucas Barcak all had hits for the Horns. With the win, the Longhorns improve to 5-0 in district.

On Friday night, the Longhorns hosted the Dilly Wolves. The Longhorns defeated a scrappy Dilley team by a score of 5-1. Cantu pitched a great game. Cantu went six and one third innings and struck out 15 Wolve batters. He allowed only one hit. He improved his pitching record to 3-0 on the season. Katzfey came in and recorded the last two outs on strikeouts to record his fourth save of the season. The Longhorns managed to get 10 hits on the night. Jones was 2-4 and scored two runs for the Longhorns. Pipkin was 2-4, Cantu, Hardick, Smith, Barcak each had a hit for the Horns.

The Longhorn’s season record now stands at 12-1 and 6-0 in district. The Longhorns will travel to Poth on Tuesday and Jourdanton on Friday night. Game time is 7 p.m.
