Mat Trojans pin Vipers

The A.C. Jones High Trojan wrestlers competed at the San Antonio Reagan Duals over the weekend with the boys winning one match in four tries against some tough competition.

On Tuesday evening, the Trojans captured a district meet over the Victoria Memorial Vipers, 33-30.

The Trojans fell to Killeen Shoemaker in the first round in San Antonio, 52-17.

The second round had the Trojans on the mats against San Antonio Churchill. The Trojans wrestled well but dropped a 42-30 match to the Chargers. The SA Roosevelt Roughriders provided the competition in the third round for the Trojans. The ‘Riders captured the match 48-24.

The Trojans picked up their only win of the duals meet with a 24-18 victory over Killeen.

The Lady Trojans were also at the meet and competed in an individual tournament with the other available girls.

Beeville’s Stephanie Valencia, at 102 pounds, placed second in her division with a 2-1 record on the weekend. Arielle Salazar, at 110 pounds, also placed second with a 2-1 record. Angela Salazar did not place at 128 pounds and was 2-2 for the tourney. Elaine Garcia placed third in her 138-pound weight class with a 2-1 record. Brittany Rodriguez, in the 165-pound class, did not place and was 2-2 for her four matches.

“The girls wrestled well as a whole, but we still have a few things to correct before the postseason starts,” said JHS head wrestling coach Terry Foster.

The Trojans were in Victoria on Tuesday evening and captured a close 33-30 win over the Vipers. Beeville improved to 6-6 in district competition and to 9-12 overall. The District Duals are set for next weekend at Corpus Christi Moody.
