I, Robbie Shortner, former district clerk of Karnes County, would like to take this time to thank the citizens of Karnes County for their support over the years.
I retired March 9, 2012 due to health issues. I had two doctors tell me the stress had to leave. I have given Karnes County 14 years of dedication and enjoyed every bit of it. There were many hours daily that seemed to go unnoticed by certain individuals, but I feel like I did above and beyond my call of duties.
I have met a number of people over the years and made friends with many. In October of 2011, we moved from the courthouse to the annex on the square. This was a huge task. The ladies I had working for me did a tremendous job in organizing files and such. And after a couple of months of situating things here and there, everything seemed to come together for the District Clerk’s office.
I worked closely with the District Judges months prior to moving in to the new building trying to get a room organized and designed to hold court. We will still had no place to hold court when we moved in. In March, before I retired, construction finally had started.
In the past year, since the county has been under new reign, my health changed due to stress and threats. Needless to say, things have gone downhill drastically. In the prior 13 years of working for the county, there were never this many types of problems.
I really enjoyed my job.
Since retiring, the stress has eased up and the headaches are gone. I’m going to enjoy my family, grandchildren and the time I have left. Fishing is a must. No time clocks to clock in, I can sleep as late as I want, lounge around and watch television until noon. I’m going to do as I please and not have to answer to anyone.
Thank you Karnes County.
