C.B. “Pat” McWhorter Jr., 69, of Belmond, Iowa, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012, following a long bout with cancer.

Mr. McWhorter was born in Corpus Christi, Dec. 20, 1942. He married Jeannie (Knoll) McWhorter in Beeville in 1974 and lived in Beeville throughout most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army until 1967 and with the U.S. Border Patrol. He served on the Beeville Police Department until 1978 and worked for Dan Hughes Oil Company until 1990.

He earned a bachelor’s degree with highest honors from Texas A&I University in 1992. He was employed as an inspector for the Criminal Justice Department for the State of Texas, where he retired in 2002. He enjoyed traveling, cooking, grilling, golfing, carpentry and hunting.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Jeannie McWhorter; two sons, Patrick (Elizabeth)McWhorter of Austin and Jason (Lauren) McWhorter of San Diego, Calif.; and two grandsons, Aidan and Kennan.

Visitation was held Saturday, May 5, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church in Belmond, Iowa.

A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Belmond, Iowa, Saturday, May 5, at 10:30 a.m. with Father Nils Hernandez and Deacon Jerry Temeyer officiating. Burial with full military honors was provided by the Belmond Military Unit in the St. Francis Catholic Cemetery near Belmond.

Memorial donations may be made to the Belmond Medical Center or the charity of one’s own choice; cards and memorials may be also be sent in care of Pat’s wife, Jeannie McWhorter, to: 1427 Reed Avenue, Belmond, IA 50421.

Arrangements were under the direction of Andrews Funeral Home, Belmond, Iowa.
