Bee County Sheriff Carlos Carrizales, Jr. accompanied deputies in two drug raids on residences last Friday that put four people behind bars on narcotics charges.

Deputy Lt. Jason Hinds said deputies and members of the BCSO Special Weapons and Tactics Team served their first search warrant on a residence in the 600 block of East Crockett Street at 5:30 p.m.

Seven people were in the house at the time of the raid but most were released, Hinds said. Unfortunately, three of the people in the house were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Deputies had outstanding warrants for their arrest on minor charges and they were taken into custody.

The resident, 27-year-old Randy Campos, was arrested and later booked on a charge of possession of a controlled substance, cocaine, greater than 28 grams but less than 200 grams.

The offense is a first degree felony punishable by a prison term of from five to 99 years or life in prison and a fine of as much as $10,000.

Bond was set at $5,000 by Justice of the Peace Raul Casarez and Campos was later released.

The search warrant was signed by County Judge David Silva.

Hinds said he and the sheriff were accompanied on the raid by Chief Deputy Alden Southmayd, Commander Karl Brune and Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Intelligence Officer Sgt. Drew Pilkington.

SWAT team members included Sgt. Kevin Behr and deputies Cecil Daniels, Jason Alvarez, Simon Moya and J.D. Aguirre.

From that raid the same team struck a home in the 1500 block of East Kennedy Street at about 7:30 p.m.

Again, deputies found narcotics in the residence and they arrested 41-year-old Adelina “Adeline” Cantu, 25-year-old Gerrardo “Jerry” Cantu and 33-year-old Porfirio Medellin, III.

Hinds said a fourth man was detained at the scene but he was held for the U.S. Border Patrol and not charged with a drug violation.

District Judge Joel Johnson issued the search and arrest warrants for that raid, Hinds said.

The three suspects were all charged with possession of a controlled substance, cocaine, less than one gram, and possession of a controlled substance (described as assorted prescription medication), less than 28 grams. Hinds said both of those charges are state jail felonies punishable by terms of from six months to two years in a state jail facility and a fine of as much as $10,000.

The suspects also were charged with possession of marijuana, two to four ounces. That offense is a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by a term of up to a year in jail and a fine of as much as $4,000.

All three later were released on bonds totaling $4,000.
