Trojan summer camps to keep athletes busy

BEEVILLE – Sports and athletics don’t take a summer break once school lets out at the end of May. Several Trojan summer camps are lined up to keep the young Beeville athletes in shape and gaining skills.

The cost of each camp is $30 unless otherwise posted with no refunds. Contact the A.C. Jones High School Athletic Department for more information and to register for these camps.

The Beeville Athletic Club gets the longest run of the summer and it’s for the incoming high school grades 9-12. It’s a structured workout program that begins June 4 and runs through July 19 from 5-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The open program will be held in the weight room and in the gym at the high school.

Summer track also kicks off early in June with the first practice set for June 5. The young tracksters practice and compete the entire month, ending with a championship meet on June 30.

Ages 6-12 will meet for practice from 8 to 9 a.m. and the older, 13-18-year-olds will go from 9-10 a.m. every day (M-F). Registration does not include the AAU card. The summer track runners will meet at the high school stadium.

The tennis camp will run from June 4 through June 7 and they will meet each day at the high school courts. The program is for grades 3-9 and will have three hours, 8 to 11 a.m., of instruction and fun on the courts each day.

Soccer camp for grades K-9 will be held June 11-14 on the high school practice fields from 5-8 o’clock each evening. Fun and fundamentals will be stressed with drills and games.

The Trojan basketball camp will take the floor in the new gym from June 18-22 for kids entering third through sixth grades in the fall. This first session will be from 8 a.m. until noon each day. Fundamentals, with drills and games will be a highlight of the camp.

The second session of the basketball camp will be held on June 25-29 and will be for the older kids, those entering seventh through ninth grade. The time remains from 8 a.m. until noon.

The Trojan football camp is for the future gridiron heroes in grades sixth through ninth, entering this fall. The camp will be held July 23-26 with an emphasis on developing personal football skills with maximum participation in drills, mini games, activities and competitions to refine and improve personal bests. The players will meet at the high school field house and on the practice fields. The camp will run from 8:30 a.m. until noon each day.

The volleyball camp will have the incoming ninth-grade girls working out from Aug. 1-3 from 8 a.m. until noon in the new gym.

The Trojan cheerleaders will hold an open camp on July 30 through Aug. 3 in the high school’s old gym. The camp will be for aspiring cheerleaders from K-8 grades from 8 a.m. until noon Cost of the camp is $40.

All of the camps will be supervised by the BISD athletic staff. Some camp starting dates may change; please contact the JHS Athletic Department for updated information.
