Mr. Garcia was born Aug. 20, 1931, in Oakville to Dionicio and Juanita Cortez Garcia. He married Elida Martinez on April 25, 1955, in George West and was a truck driver for Ashland Oil Inc. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War and was a member of St. George Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elida Garcia; his parents, Dionicio and Juanita Garcia; and a bother, Manuel Garcia.
Survivors include two sons, Rey Garcia and Raul “Pepe” (Rachel) Garcia, both of George West; three daughters, Margie (Endercio Jr.) Chapa and Delma (Gilbert Moya) Garcia, both of George West and Belinda (Joe Garza) Garcia of Leander; eight grandchildren, Rebecca Rae Garcia, Juan Gabriel Garcia, Adriane Rose Garcia, Claudia G. Chapa, Salina G. Chapa, Isabella Martina Chapa, Candace Nicole Gonzales and Joseph G. Gonzales; one great-grandson; and three sisters, Maria Garcia of Beeville, Micaela (Ismael) Ybanez of George West and Carmen (Adolfo) Moreno of Corpus Christi.
Visitation was held from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday, May 21, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Chapel in George West. A rosary was recited at St. George Catholic Church that evening at 7 o’clock.
The funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, at St. George Catholic Church with Father George Johnson officiating. Musical selections were provided by organist Barbara Bednorz and vocalists Cris Luna and Fernando Cisneros. Burial followed in St. George Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Gabriel Garcia, Joseph Gonzales, Robert Ramon, Omar Salazar, Abel Gutierrez, Adolf Moreno, Chris Ybanez and Joe Ramon.
Honorary pallbearers were Julian Ramon, Ernan Cortez, Joe Garza and Cash James Garcia.
Arrangements were under the direction of Galloway & Sons Funeral Home, Three Rivers.
