BEEVILLE – Relay for Life Bee County is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Friday at Veterans Memorial Stadium at A.C. Jones High School.

So far, $52,544 has been raised from the 43 teams and 582 participants. That number has grown significantly in the last month from $35,000 raised by the original date of the relay.

The annual event was originally scheduled for April 20; however, the threat of rain caused officials to postpone it until this weekend.

Normagrace Flores is inviting everyone to come out Friday evening and show their support for the survivors and the American Cancer Society.

In an earlier interview, she said, “The significance is how much the American Cancer Society has to offer people in the community who are battling cancer, be it as an individual or a family.

“All the money raised through this event goes to assist in research, provide lodging, prosthetics, wigs, education and much more.

“Cancer affects so many people; if the time ever does come that someone needs the assistance of ACS, they will be there to help.”

There is still time for cancer survivors to sign up for survivor activities and register online at www.RelayForLife.org/BeeCounty.

Registration also will be held the day of the event from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The Survivors Lap will begin after opening ceremonies at 7 p.m. There will also be a survivors reception immediately following the Survivors Lap.

Relay for Life is also looking for volunteers for the event.

Those interested in assisting with set up, activities or clean up can contact Normagrace Flores at 318-0355 (after 5 p.m.) or Jesse Gonzales at 350-0137 for more information.
