City Secretary Tomas P. Saenz said the window of opportunity for filing will actually be on Saturday, Feb. 7. But City Hall will not open until Feb. 9.
Candidates will then have until May 5 to apply for a place on one of the two ballots.
Council candidates do not have to live in the wards in which they run but they must be residents of the city of Beeville.
Incumbents in those wards include Mike Scotten, who is completing his first two-year term in Ward 1, and Mayor Kenneth Chesshir.
Chesshir has been on the City Council since 1993 and has served as mayor since 1996.
Saenz reminded residents of those two wards that if they have not yet registered to vote in the ward or if they have moved to either of those wards from another ward they have until April 9 to register or change their addresses.
“People must realize they can only vote where they live,” Saenz said.
Voters who wish to cast ballots by mail may apply for a ballot beginning March 10. Mail voters will have until the morning of May 9 to get those ballots back to City Hall. But they must be returned through the mail and not delivered in person.
Early voting by personal appearance will begin at City Hall on April 27 and the last day to cast an early ballot at the city secretary’s office will be May 5.
