BEEVILLE — The police department and Coastal Bend Crime Stoppers are seeking information that could lead to an arrest in a case of a stolen air conditioner unit at a Beeville Housing Authority unit.

According to a report filed by Sgt. Ryan Treviño, Housing Authority personnel at the office at 1110 W. Bowie St. said Monday that they had found a central air conditioning unit missing from outside an apartment in the 400 block of East Dolan Street.

An authority employee said the inside unit also was taken, bringing the loss to about $4,000.

Treviño reported that the outside unit had the word “Trane” on it. He said he was told that the theft must have occurred sometime between June 21 and 23.

Authority employees noted that they found the back door to the apartment unlocked.

Anyone who might have information regarding the theft should call Crime Stoppers at 362-0206 or phone long distance to (877) 362-0206.

Internet users may contact the organization by email at coastalbendcrimestoppers.com.

Tipsters need not identify themselves to collect a reward and the organization pays up to $1,000 for information that leads to the apprehension of a suspect.

Air Conditioner Theft - Growing Problem

Theft of air conditioning units has become increasingly popular and is on the rise because of the copper and aluminum contained within them. Residential air conditioning unit thefts are easy prey occurring during the day when no one is home and also at night when people are asleep
