Born October 30, 1926, in her childhood home in Oakville, Texas, to Otto and Sophia Goebel, she attended George West High School and graduated from South West State Teachers College in San Marcos in 1950. In 1952, she married her childhood friend, Terrell Rosebrock; in 1954, Marilyn and Terrell were blessed with their son, Randal “Pistol” Rosebrock.
Her first teaching job was 1950 in Harper, Texas, where she was an elementary teacher, basketball coach and cheerleader sponsor for the six-man football team. The following year, she started teaching at George West Elementary, where she taught for two years. In 1952, they moved to Corpus Christi were she taught for a year and half at North Beach; after the birth of her son, she returned to teaching at David Crockett, and from there, she was transferred to Rose Shaw, where she taught for the next three years. The family then moved back home to Oakville, where Marilyn started teaching fourth grade in Three Rivers, Texas, in 1957; Marilyn taught fourth grade for four years before deciding her heart was in the first grade tier of education. Here in the first grade of Three Rivers I.S.D., she taught for twenty-seven years. She was a member of the Texas State Teachers Association for twenty-five years and was a strong supporter of that organization in the halls of the Legislature in Austin. Her students are the beneficiaries of her experience, passion and quest for a better education for each one she taught.
