Anthea “Thea” (Martin) Whitenton died in Houston Sunday following a battle with breast cancer.

Mrs. Whitenton was an artist, among the first-ever female technical illustrators at NASA. She pursued interior design and architectural drafting, and started her own landscape design company, designing projects all over Houston and surrounding areas. She also enjoyed an enduring career as a performer and singer with Family Tree. She loved flora and fauna of all kinds, and enjoyed many years of active participation with the Plumeria Society of America, serving as director and plant sale chair, speaking to garden clubs and master gardeners groups. She cultivated and internationally registered several unique varieties of Plumeria.

Survivors include her husband, Richard; her daughters, Paige and Megan; her father, Anthony “Jack” Wicks; and her brother, Anthony “Tony” Wicks.

A memorial service will be held in Houston in August.
