Ladies Auxiliary, BVFD enjoy sweetheart banquet

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Beeville Volunteer Fire Department honored the firefighters, their wives, sweethearts and girlfriends, with their annual Sweetheart Awards Banquet on Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 7 p.m. in the Faith Lutheran Church fellowship hall. There were about 85 people in attendance.

Buddy Hardy, president of the Beeville Fire Department, welcomed all the guests and firefighters to the banquet. William “Bill” Stockton, chaplain of the Fire Department, gave the invocation.

The Ladies Auxiliary made and served everyone a menu of roast beef, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls and desserts. After the meal was served, Hardy, master of ceremonies, introduced all the officers of the fire department and special guests.

The special guests were: Rev. Don and Marilyn Taylor, Dr. Gary and Carol Williams, Dr. Rodney and Vicki Schorlemmer, Bill and Kathy Stockton, Tony and Reneatha Golmon, Jimmy Myers, Joe and Anita Linnstaedter, Joann Price and Joy Luthringer.

Rhoda Dunn, president of the Ladies Auxiliary, introduced all officers and members of the auxiliary. She also presented a 50-year service pin to Mary Denkler.

Donnie Morris, fire chief, presented service pins to the following firefighters: Ken Orrell Jr., 10 years; Rick Webb, 15 years; Adolph Cantu, 20 years; and Jack Elder, 50 years.

The attendance badge pin went to Vic Einspahr. There were 53 drills and 305 calls, for a total of 358 for the year 2008, 346 of which were attended by Einspahr.

Gwenth Burris and Bill Stockton led the grouop in singing “Let Me Call You Sweetheart.”
