Soil Testing Campaign and Nutrient Management Seminar

The Karnes County Texas A&M AgriLIFE Extension Service and the Karnes County Beef & Forage Committee is pleased to announce an upcoming Soil Testing Campaign and Nutrient Management Seminar. Rising costs for fertilizer is creating challenges for south Texas producers making soil testing for nutrients more important than ever in support of growing forage and row crops.

The soil testing campaign will run from Aug. 15 to Sept. 12 with forms and soil bags available at the Extension office and from Beef & Forage Committee members. Return samples to the Extension office to be processed. Sample costs will be $8.00 for a routine sample with a limit of 3 samples per customer.

On Oct. 18 at the Kenedy City Hall a Nutrient Management Symposium sponsored by Johnson Bender & Co and Karnes County Producers Co-operative will be held starting a 2 p.m. Dr. Dan Fromme, Extension Agronomist, will make a presentation on nutrient management in Karnes County. Dr Larry Redmon, Extension Forage Specialist, will make a presentation on nutrient management of forage crops. Dr. Megan Dominguez-Clayton, Extension Range Specialist, will make a presentation on nutrient management of rangelands. Benny Martinez of Dow AgroSciences will give a product update, and Philip Beanvides, Texas Department of Agriculture will give a Laws and Regulation update. Willis Johnson of Johnson Bender & Co will provide a brief presentation on financial management and charitable contributions.

The program will conclude at 7 p.m. with a catered meal. Cost for the program will be $15 with 5 Private Pesticide Applicator CEU’s being available. Please call the Karnes County Extension office to RSVP at (830)780-3906.
