Bee County deputies, acting on detailed information from concerned citizens, arrested six people on Feb. 13 after a drug raid at an apartment in the 200 block of East Crockett Street.

Deputy Lt. Jason Hinds said it took investigators about two weeks to work up the case and get a search warrant from Justice of the Peace David Garza.

Hinds said most cases take longer to wrap up but the information received by Sheriff Carlos Carrizales Jr. “was excellent,” enabling deputies to move much sooner on the suspects.

He said the sheriff, top deputies and members of the Bee County Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons and Tactics Team converged on the apartment at 7:49 p.m. the day of the raid.

Inside, the lawmen found 28 grams of cocaine, about half of which had been bagged for distribution. They also found fewer than two ounces of marijuana in the residence along with scales, pipes and other paraphernalia used to package and sell drugs.

Four adults in the apartment were charged with delivery and manufacture of a controlled substance, cocaine, and possession of marijuana.

Two boys, one 15 and one 16, also were taken into custody and turned over to juvenile authorities.

Judge Garza set bonds on the adults at $2,000 each on the cocaine charges and at $500 each on the marijuana charge. One of the adults, 40-year-old Martina Campos, had a bond of $1,000 on the marijuana charge, however.

Other adults charged included 34-year-old Benito Moreno, 19-year-old Richard Anthony Sanchez and 17-year-old Marcus Anthony Sanchez.

Carrizales was accompanied in the raid by Chief Deputy Alden Southmayd, Commander Karl Brune, Commander Mike Page, Sgts. Kevin Behr, Craig Gisler and Ronnie Jones and Deputies Cecil Daniels, Jason Alvarez and J.S. Aguirre.

Hinds and Investigator Steve Martin processed the crime scene after the occupants had been arrested.
