Nominations for the 2009-2010 Gifted and Talented program are being accepted at Pettus Elementary for grades K-5th. Students must be nominated and tested prior to joining the G/T program. Nominations are due no later than Friday, March 13, 2009. Letters, informing parents/guardians of nomination procedures, were sent home with students who are currently in grades K-5.

Typical characteristics of a Gifted and Talented student include expression through oral means as well as written means; curiosity about how things work and are made; creativity in more than one area; questioning of reasons; leadership abilities; good character; sense of humor; persistence until job is accomplished; an adventurous spirit; ability to see things and ideas in new and different ways; enjoyment of being mentally challenged; the ability to be a quick thinker; ability to organize; and a consistent high level performance in school. Students nominated should demonstrate a majority of these characteristics.

Nominations may be made by a parent, teacher or anyone with knowledge of the nominee’s abilities. Testing of those nominated for the Gifted and Talented program will begin after March 26.
