BEEVILLE – The visiting seventh-grade Cade Bulldogs from Victoria had more than they could handle Tuesday night as the host MMS Trojans defeated both the A and B Cade teams.

In the B game, the young Trojans opened with a touchdown in the first quarter as Jesse Castro went 11 yards for the score. Jaiden Chapa made good on the two-point conversion run and the Trojans led early 8-0.

The Beeville defense was sound and stopped the Cade offense. Chapa, Logan Williams, Roberto Rodriguez all came up with big hits for the Trojans.

The Beeville boys added a second TD in the second period with Brian Lucio doing the honors on an 8-yard scamper. Conner DeLeon ran in the PAT try to make it a 16-0 ball game with 3:29 left in the first half.

The Trojan defense refused to yield and the score remained 16-0 at the halftime break.

The Bulldogs took their first possession of the second half into the end zone after a nice drive, mixing both runs and passes. The conversion run was good and the scoreboard had it at 16-8 with the Trojans still holding the advantage.

The final few minutes of the third quarter and all of the fourth was a defensive struggle. Both teams failed to score and the Trojans earned a 16-8 victory to even their record on the year to 1-1.

In the A game that followed, the Beeville defense shined and shut out the Bulldogs, 30-0.

It was a dominating win as the Bulldogs were stopped repeatedly by the hard-charging Trojan “D”.

Offensively, the Trojans got touchdowns from Paul Wessels, Dolton Corpus and QB Justin Gomez found receiver Jacob Flore for another score.

Isaiah Moreno intercepted a Cade pass late in the first half and took it all the way for the Trojans final score. The play covered 60 yards. The Beeville boys scored 22 second quarter points to put the game away at 30-0.

The game had a running clock in the second half and the Trojan defense still played great football. The Trojan defense forced two fumbles and intercepted two passes on the night. Moreno had the one INT for the score and Elijah Rodriguez picked off the earlier throw in the Beeville end zone to keep the Bulldogs scoreless.

“It was an awesome win for the young Trojans at home. We are going to keep on improving each day,” said MMS coach Ricardo Maldonado.

The eighth-grade games were in Victoria and the Cade Bulldogs came out on top in both contests.

The B team lost a close one at 14-8. AJ Gomez and Kyle Villarreal led the Trojan offense. Villarreal scored the lone Trojan TD with a short, 5-yard burst through the Bulldog defense. Gomez made good on the PAT run for the Beeville boys.

The coaches acknowledged good defensive play from Tiki Granados, Marcus Perez and Bryan Gaitan.

The Beeville A team lost a very close 22-20 game to the Cade boys.

Dustin Torres and Steve Barrera led the Trojan offense on their first drive of the night. Torres running and Barrera caught long, 65-yard completion from QB Nick Gonzales that put the Trojans at the Cade one-yard line. Torres finished off the scoring drive with a plunge into the end zone.

Barrera set up the next TD for the Trojans with a 40-yard run to the Bulldog 30. Michael Virata took it in from their for the Beeville second TD. Virata scored again in the second half, this time from 25 yards away.

“We have the tools to score and will continue to be successful. I was very proud of these boys on how they played tonight,” said MMS coach Pat Flores.

“These boys are getting better and better every week.”

Defensively, the coaches gave praise to Justin Cantu, Anthony Brionus and Kaden Morin.

“I finally saw some spark in our defense. We were flying to the ball and putting it to them,” said coach Ruben Lopez.

It was close but the Bulldogs captured the win 22-20.

The Trojans play Gregory-Portland next Tuesday. The seventh-grade teams will be at home while the eighth-grade boys again will be on the road.
